Introduction 👋

Headers and footers allow you to customize your documents and easily align them with your company’s corporate design (CI). Simply create a header or footer and add it to any template you want.

Creating headers & footers ✨

To create headers and/or footers, you need the Owner or Admin role.

  1. Go to Account Settings → Headers/Footers

  2. Click the [+] button in the top right to create a new header or footer

  3. Enter a name for the new header or footer

  4. Click [Create]

The header and footer editor will then open.

Settings in the Header and Footer Editor

Name

You can change the name of the header or footer here at any time.

Header

Define the content of the header here.

  • Displayed on every page of the PDF version

  • Displayed once at the top of the online document if the option “Visible in browser view” is enabled

Footer

Define the content of the footer here.

  • Displayed on every page of the PDF version

  • Displayed once at the bottom of the online document if “Visible in browser view” is enabled

Visibility

If this option is enabled, headers and footers are also displayed in the online document view:

  • Header at the top of the document

  • Footer at the bottom of the document

✒️ Editing header and footer content

Editing works similarly to editing templates or documents.

All formatting options and insertable elements can be found in the command menu.

Available formatting options include:

  • Text alignment

  • Color

  • Highlights

  • Fonts

  • Lists

  • Line spacing

  • and more

💡Hint: If you want to place text with different alignments in the same line, you can use a borderless table.

Sections Visible Only in the PDF

You can use PDF variables that appear only in the PDF version and not in the online document. Open the corresponding command menu using:

  • Command + P (macOS)

  • Control + P (Windows / Linux)

Available PDF variables

  • Page number - page numbering

  • Checksum - only displayed once the document is fully signed

  • Version date - also appears only after the document has been fully signed

  • Signature type - (SES, AES, QES)

Some of these variables are only generated after the document has been fully signed, which is why they appear only in the final PDF version.

💡Tip: PDF variables cannot contain tables, but they can be placed inside tables.

Using headers & footers 📄

Currently, headers and footers can only be used in templates, not in individual documents.

How to add them to a template

  1. Open the desired template

  2. Click the header/footer icon in the top menu bar of the template editor

  3. Select the desired header and footer

If “Visible in online view” is enabled, the header or footer will already be visible in the template (all content except PDF variables).

Frequently asked questions 💬

Can I use multiple headers and footers in a template?

No. Only one combination of header and footer can be used per template.

How can I preview the header/footer?

  • Enable “Visible in online view” to see a preview in the online document

  • To view the final result, open the template preview

💡Tip: In the final document, dynamic fields may insert additional content, which can change the page layout.

To verify the final layout and formatting, it is recommended to download the document as a PDF before adding signers and make adjustments if necessary.

Will changes to the header/footer automatically be applied to my documents?

Changes to headers/footers will only be visible in newly created documents.
